The AAIR course is designed to improve integration between law enforcement, fire, tele-communicator and EMS in active attack/shooter events. The course provides law enforcement officers with key medical skills based on tactical emergency casualty care guidelines, which can be used at the point of injury to increase survivability of victims. The course also provides a model framework for law enforcement, fire, and EMS to integrate responses during an active attack/shooter event through the rescue task force concept. This course has been designed to improve the safety and survivability of victims of active attack / shooter events and increase the effectiveness, coordination, and resource integration between law enforcement, fire, tele-communications and EMS when responding to these events. This course was developed by the National Fire Academy and is designed for anyone involved in structural fire fighting from the firefighter to the Incident Commander. The course will prepare the student to recognize warning signs and dangers regarding building collapse before and during an incident so appropriate preventive or protective actions can be taken and the correct tactical decisions can be made. The Georgia Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Program is a dynamic collaboration of professionals committed to ensuring that persons with mental illnesses and other brain disorders receive treatment, in lieu of incarceration in most cases. The program includes a law enforcement training component delivered via a forty-hour course curriculum approved by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council as follows: Classroom instructional training involving various mental health topics that address mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, and addictive diseases. Site visits to local emergency receiving facilities and state psychiatric hospitals. Performance-based training involving the development of de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention skills via role-play scenarios Law enforcement officers who successfully complete the course are equipped with the skills necessary to safely and effectively respond to individuals with mental health needs and in crisis.
